Discussion How To Download The Largest Size Flickr Photos That Are Restricted (1 Viewer)

Flickr has a new layout with a view all button. This is how you download large size photos when you are not allowed to:

1. When you get to the main page of the picture, at the top of the picture select the drop down box that states " Actions" and then choose "View All Sizes"
2. Once You are on this page right click and depending on your browser is should same something "view page source" which will open up a new tab with html coding.
3. Using the find option on this new page, search for "jpg". About 4 or 5 jpg finds should come up.
   
4. Next, go to the first link find and it if it has the word static in the beginning and not an IP address or thumb at the end for example http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4003/4323076179_9babcc394e_mthumb.jpg , ignore it.
   
5. Now, Click the find button to go to the second link found and it should be a link that will always start with an IP address such as http://64.19.142.13/farm5.static.flickr.com/4003/
   
6. Finally, Clicking this above link in the new tab will open the blocked largest available image that you can now download.

If for some reason jpg is not found at all when you search the entire html page, try png which is another popular upload extension file type for flickr photos. Let me know how it works out.

Another easy way is to view the large size and then save the whole web page for offline viewing. Save it to a folder. It's then easy to search that folder for *.jpg and sort by size. This works with Firefox but I'd imagine it also works with IE.

Also with Firefox, view the full size picture, right click on the picture and select View Selection Source. You will get the source for the pic and can copy and paste the URL into the bar.

Is there any way to legally download Instagram pics these days? I found some fantastic images in the old days. Now there is no download option on Insta pics.

I just saved them as scrolling wallpapers anyway, not porn and never shared.

Legality issues aside, if you're a Windows user you can always use the snipping tool to capture anything you see on your screen and save it as a .jpg or .png file. The catch is the resolution is a product of the size the image appears on the screen; if it's on the small size it won't turn out too great. Also, images that exceed the size of your screen and need to be scrolled to view in their entirety can't be fully captured by the snipping tool.

There is probably software out there which permits capturing large images that have the download option disabled, although technically this isn't necessarily legal.

Thanks for your reply. I was using an Insta downloader (forget actual name of it - found on a Google search) but I was getting notifications from Instagram that "suspicious activity" was detected on my account, so, for safety and legality's sake I packed it in and no longer even look at Instagram.

As a personal opinion, I cannot see the harm in downloading images of interest. The subjects are definitely over 18, not porn and are not reposted or shared by me, they just live on my scrolling wallpaper file.

I agree -- generally anything posted on the Internet that isn't behind a paywall you've bypassed or that is coded to disable any native downloading function should be fair game, if you aren't sharing the content with others. Instagram probably has an algorithm that detects the presence of download tools like the one you used and then automatically generates a "suspicious activity" notification to deter people from this practice. As far as I know, simply using a snipping tool is not an actual download and doesn't trigger such warnings.
