Subject: beware the man!
The following story appeared last week in a Denver area newspaper. It
is unfortunate to have such negative attention drawn on our harmless
little hobby. But you must conclude that as part of their
investigation of this individual, they have discovered all of these
assorted Keds based chat rooms and Clubs and examined every posting
made by every member for the last couple of years. In efforts to
profile their perpetrator, law enforcement may have even profiled some
of us. I suddenly feel very self conscious.
Jeffco arrests Denver man in Keds case

It's a case of Keds sneakers, an alleged sexual fetish and women
being stalked, Jefferson County sheriff's officials said Wednesday.
Authorities arrested David William Christensen, 40, of Denver, on
allegations of stalking and second-degree burglary after a
two-year investigation into the Keds case.
Sheriff's spokeswoman Jacki Tallman said a search warrant
executed at Christensen's home in the 1300 block of South
Canosa Court produced evidence related to the case. She
declined to elaborate.
Christensen was released from the Jefferson County jail on bail of
$2,000. When contacted, he said, "This is an accusation. I haven't
been convicted of anything."
Tallman said the case involves three women ranging from 30 to 50
years of age.
In each case, the women found ered a Keds sneaker with a
sexually explicit message scrawled on it. The shoes were left
either on their car or near their house.
Someone then broke into the women's homes and attempted to
retrieve the shoes and steal photos of the women, deputies said.
So far, investigators have not discovered anything else that links
the women, Tallman said. Nor do they have evidence that any of
them knew Christensen.
Christensen apparently purchased numerous pairs of Keds, she
said.
Investigators found it especially troubling that what began as a
private fetish escalated into overt public acts of stalking and
burglary, Tallman said.
"This was very scary, very aggressive behavior," she said.
Sheriff's investigators believe there may be other women who
have been victimized. Anyone with information on similar incidents
is asked to call a crime tip line at (303) 271-5599.
"Most people, I'm assuming, are not familiar with this fetish. They
may not recognize that they were victimized," Tallman said.
Tallman said investigator Dan Dunnebecke began working the
case two years ago.
After sharing information with other metro-area detectives,
Dunnebecke was eventually able to generate enough evidence to
obtain a search warrant, she said.
Before this case, Tallman said, none of the investigators had ever
heard of a fetish dealing specifically with Keds shoes.
However, investigators have since learned that there are
numerous Internet chat rooms and bulletin boards devoted to the
fetish.
