G-Rated Keds Discussions White Leather Keds

I’ve always preferred canvas over leather Keds so I haven’t seen too many leather ones up close. From public observation and looking online, the type/quality of the leather seems to have changed over time; mostly for the worse.

I recall 20+ years ago the leather looking pretty good and it held up well. Where I live, girls would often wear the leather version in the fall and winter when it was cold and wet. By the time spring rolled around, the leather showed wear but wasn’t horrible.

Maybe 10 years ago, my wife had a pair of leather Keds Hampton Sport that were pretty nice. The leather seemed to be of a decent quality.

When I see the occasional pair of leather champions out and about, the leather looks cheap and slightly off white. One worn pair I had seen had cracks in the leather like they were from a dollar store.

What are your observations? Has the quality of the leather Keds decreased over time?

My lovely has a brand new pair of white keds champs, they look pretty good and the quality seems good, although I do remember the leather Keds in the past being a buttery feel, they still look great on her!

Hi! The white leather Keds Champions sure have changed! While the new version still catches my attention, I prefer the older version with the better leather quality and white lace eyelets.

That's the term: Buttery. The leather was more supple and in my opinion simply looked better.
