Tom, I adore the target keds with the stripe around the foxing. Totally SEXY AF!On a fashion blog I just found some pictures on, a woman said she was wearing "target keds", as if keds were a type of shoe, not a brand name. Anyway, I like Target Keds, lol
I agree. The Bal from Payless were great. Most knock offs seem to have soles and foxing that aren't even rubber, but ...hard to explain, this super soft, fibrous, fake rubber stuff, or else they use really hard, plastic-like soles. The Payless Bal were amazing in that they actually seemed to use real rubber most similar to name brands. I also liked the early Urban Outfitters knock offs from the early 2010's, but those wore out after wearing them, once or twice, but their traction was amazing, and they had this rubber smell that brought me back to the 90's.I think the best recent knock offs were the city sneaks bal sneakers (that later became American Eagle) that were sold at Payless. Those were so sexy and affordable!
I don’t mind other knock off keds like the target ones but they just don’t excite me the same as the bal sneakers or regular champions. But I will gladly take any Oxford style shoe over converse.
While for our use, I will let it slide if Keds are used generically because of logistics and the fact we all know the difference as sneaker enthusiasts, I agree it is bad in the general media if the Keds brand name is used generically because a brand can lose its Trademark status. It is called "genericide." People who do this are killing the brand. Another example is Jell-O to refer to gelatin. A conspiracy theorist might say this could be done with malicious intent. This is especially harmful for Keds because some of the younger generation don't even know Keds exist. Many of them don't even know it's a brand. On a fashion blog I just found some pictures on, a woman said she was wearing "target keds", as if keds were a type of shoe, not a brand name.
