Re: Do any of you guys wear women's sneakers in public?

Yes, currently I have a fairly decent collection of Women's Nike Sky Dunk Wedge sneakers. I have the hi top black and grey sneaker boot wedge which I wear a lot, day and night. The only ones who've noticed were salesclerks in Footlocker, Finishline and Downtown Locker Room. There was also a gay hairdresser who called me aside and questioned me about my wedges as if I didn't kniw they were women's sneakers. I said I knew and didn't care what gender they were "supposed" to be. Women have been wearing plainly male attire for decades, I think it's fair exchange.
You can find my pix on Fetlife and Flickr. Drop a line if you're interested in learning more.

While I don't wear them personally, I've started to notice a trend of men wearing women's sneakers recently. I see guys wearing pink or purple Converse quite a bit now. Usually they're sort of nerdy/grungy types who probably wear the same chucks every day until they blow them out. But it's still cool. Then I've even started seeing a lot of guys wearing Keds too. Not necessarily Champs, but similar looking canvas sneakers with the blue label clearly visible. Apparently they're popular shoes for hipsters and "high fashion" types.
I even saw a guy in a train station in Europe wearing black chucks with the wedge heels. It was hard to tell at first, but they were definitely the heel style. Can't tell if it was a fashion decision, fetish decision, or if he just wanted to look taller.
Either way, I always wonder when I see them, whether or not those guys have the fetish like we do.

I wear my Keds all the time, whether in public or in private. I've been wearing them since my youth. If I could not find a men's version, then I would find a women's that would fit. Sad thing about today's Keds...the shoes they make for men are too narrow and too tight if you have a high instep. The best Keds I found are those made in Indonesia...the fit is spot on. The Chinese have yet to understand shoe designs and make them too narrow or too tight. Anybody who knows me will know I wear Keds and accept them accordingly. My wife also wears Keds daily....her collection must be over 50 pairs or more....in all the colors...usually two of each color in case one pair gets very dirty. I see no reason why you can't wear them in public....it was a common shoe style until the mid 1970's when foreign sneakers hit the stores and drove most American shoe companies out of business. Keds used to be made in Indiana..and as a Hoosier, it was a common shoe to see in the streets. Too bad many of us feel scared to wear them. I say "screw em"....I don't make fun of your shoes and you shouldn't make fun of mine! Life is too short to wear ugly shoes.

Yes I wear Keds all the time both at work and at home. With companies like American Apparel selling Keds like sneakers in unisex sizes and men's Keds in stores the style is becoming more commonplace for men. It's really kind of funny the Oxford sneaker was originally a men's style.

Re: Do any of you guys wear women's sneakers in public?

Agreed, I wear Keds about 80% of the time and everywhere. If you stay with white, blue, black then no one even notices. Now if I tried pink, green or yellow then someone might take a second look ;-)

My GF, a total Keds babe, and I wear Keds together daily, all over town.

Thanks for getting this thread back up and dusting it off/

Another Keds fan here, I wear them almost every day. I do have a few pairs of men's but most of mine are womens, I also have some Vans Lo Pros. I mostly wear blues, black, white and red but I've worn greens, tan, orange and purple in public, along with some various stripes and plaids. It's been long enough for me now that I don't think anything of it most of the time.

Re: Do any of you guys wear women's sneakers in public?

I used to wear Keds when they made them for men (back in the 1990's). I don't wear them today mainly because it's too much of a hassle to go out of my way to get them. I have relatively few sneakers at all. I wear them for walking and working in the yard (Keds are not suitable for these tasks) and the one pair I have for casual use happen to be another variant of a walking shoe (much better support than Keds provides and cost just about as much). I do have a pair of black slip-ons which could have been Keds that I use as slippers to take out the trash and other "short runs" outside the house. They're from Walmart and cost half as much. I wouldn't wear them all the time (they really don't provide the support that a "real" sneaker does) but for the brief periods I do wear them, they are OK.

I have a pair of "crock-offs" that I sometimes wear to the pool, but I don't understand what Mrs. Mule sees in these shoes. They're not all that comfortable, but you can get them wet and muddy and just hose them off.

As I last recall, Keds didn't support my feet much either. My feet are getting old (I won't admit that the rest of me is also getting old). Does anyone here have experience with Vans? They look like they would be more substantial.

I would not wear the most recent version of Keds. I think with the oversized label slapped over every surface of the shoe and the almost glow-in-the-dark white on blue, that they are the ugliest Keds since Keds 2K. They make even a good looking woman's feet look bad.

Re: Do any of you guys wear women's sneakers in public?

Oh yes Mule, they are VERY bright right of the box. I am wearing mine around the house hoping that neon brightness will dull. I have wide feet and while Keds XW are too narrow they at least "give" on the sides and push out where I found the Vans are WAY too narrow and with the thick walls, they don't have that play in them. I'd love to change to Vans but they don't make wide sizes. GRR Even tried the LPE, those I can almost make fit..

;-(
